Creatures of Infinite Contradiction is an 8.7% barrel-aged saison refermented with Cabernet Franc and Merlot must from Washington State. This Lambrusco-esque beer brings the funk—prominent aromas of earth and dusty beets, macerated blackberries and overripe strawberries with background notes of black pepper, floral rose, and vanilla oak. The palate features more dark fruit character—currant, plum skin, and cranberry, with subtle notes of orange zest. Medium in body with moderate acidity and a light tannic grip. This beer is quite effervescent and finishes bone dry with a concrete-like minerality. Overall this wine-beer hybrid beverage is complex and super drinkable—it has evolved a ton in the bottle since it was packaged, and I imagine it will continue to do so for some time.
